In 5th District rematch, GOP candidate rejects Trump connection

Democrat Josh Gottheimer, a top fundraiser, faces familiar opponent in midterm race

NJ Spotlight News continues its look at the congressional races in New Jersey dominating November’s midterm elections. In North Jersey’s 5th District, the race is between three-term incumbent Democrat Josh Gottheimer and Republican Frank Pallotta who ran unsuccessfully two years ago. The race is gaining traction.

Democratic strategist Dan Bryan says the last presidential election shows that the district — which redistricting stocked with about 20,000 more Democrats and 20,000 fewer Republicans — is turning bluer.
