Ahead of World AIDS Day, which will be observed Dec. 1, the New Jersey Department of Health released a plan with the bold goal of ending the HIV/AIDS epidemic in the state within the next four years. Between 2010 and 2019, the number of new adult/adolescent HIV/AIDS diagnoses in New Jersey declined from 1,345 to 1,115 — a 17% decrease. While New Jersey has made significant progress in reducing new HIV infections, advocates say there is still work to do.
Axel Torres Marrero, senior director of public policy and prevention at the Hyacinth AIDS Foundation, discusses the plan to vanquish HIV/AIDS in the state by 2025.
