New Jersey is bracing for another work week of temperatures inching toward triple digits, with not even this past weekend’s wet weather able to cool down the Garden State.
“We’ve had the second warmest June on record, and we’re on a pace for a Top 10… for the month of July,” said David Robinson, New Jersey State Climatologist. “Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday are going be the height of this and with it … the levels of humidity are going to be there as well, which is when we can’t rid our bodies of heat very effectively.
“If you’re in the sun, it’s particularly the worst,” he warned. “So get shade, take frequent breaks and hydrate yourself [with water].”
The hot weather is also not helping drought conditions or air quality.
“When you get a stagnant air mass and this kind of weather, you get high pressure, and the air just sinks and warms around,” Robinson said. “It doesn’t mix up the air enough to sweep away the pollutants that are produced here in New Jersey. And we’re at the time of the year where the sun is still pretty high in the sky, and that acts as a catalyst for these chemical reactions.
There is some good news in sight, as weather temperatures are forecast to cool to normal levels by the end of the week.
