Data detailing millions of State Police traffic stops was released by the state. Publishing that data was one of Attorney General Gurbir Grewal’s final acts in office before he leaves one week from today for a top job at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Police reform was a cornerstone of his tenure.
“We launched excellence in policing in 2019, a whole host of policies increasing professionalism, transparency and accountability,” said Grewal. “And when I saw the video of Mr. Floyd’s killing, I wanted to move more quickly. I wanted to move more quickly to revamp our state’s use-of-force policies. And that’s what we did.”
As the state’s longest-serving attorney general in 25 years, Grewal began under the Murphy administration and earned a reputation for being tough on former President Donald Trump’s policies.
