After court rulings by judges in two different states were released on Friday, the status of mifepristone, a widely-used drug to end pregnancies, is still in limbo.
On Friday, U.S. District Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk issued a ruling to suspend the Food and Drug Administration’s approval of mifepristone but said he would give the federal government a week to appeal his decision. The Department of Justice on Monday sought to block the Texas judge’s ruling, asking the 5th Circuit of Louisiana to freeze the judge’s order.
Also on Friday, a federal judge in Washington state issued a preliminary injunction in a case led by 17 Democratic state attorneys general, ordering the FDA to keep mifepristone on the market.
