There’s more help on the way for those who lived through the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. Federal leaders from New Jersey are touting a bill recently signed by President Joe Biden that provides catch-up payments for thousands of victims, spouses and families of those in the attack.

“We knew when the fund was created that the widows and children were purposely left out of the fund and we were angry back then … and it’s taken seven long years to get to where we are now, whole,” said Terry Strada of 9/11 Families United. Strada joined with several 9/11 victims’ family members Thursday to celebrate the passage of the 9/11 Families Act, sponsored by U.S. Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ). The families had been excluded when the federal government developed the U.S. Victims of State Sponsored Terrorism Fund in 2015.
