Timed to coincide with back-to-school preparations and the return of seasonal illnesses like influenza, the Camden County Department of Health and Human Services offered free vaccinations for uninsured children.
The goal of the service, provided via a mobile clinic, is to prepare children and families in Camden County for the upcoming school year.
“It was prompted by vaccine school audits that the county has done in the last two years. We noticed that there were a lot of children … [who] were missing vaccines that are mandatory in the state of New Jersey,” said public health nurse Ana Rodriguez.
Gov. Phil Murphy recently marked August as Immunization Awareness Month. According to state epidemiologist Christina Tan, vaccination rates for school-age children have not yet rebounded to pre-pandemic rates.
