Late Tuesday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommended the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for children ages 5 to 11. In New Jersey, vaccination appointments were already open Tuesday morning; the state had stored more than 200,000 shots and had vaccination sites ready to launch around the state, including pediatricians’ offices, hospitals and pharmacies.

The first pediatric doses of the vaccine were administered in New Jersey on Wednesday. “Our appointments went up last night, we got an overwhelming response. The appointments are sold out for the next four days,” said Maya Lordo, Essex County health officer.
