Fallout continues from the deal brokered last week that staved off a huge hike in health insurance premiums for hundreds of thousands of state workers. But the agreement didn’t cover hundreds of thousands more local and county workers.
“We’re still struggling with, and trying to understand, how local governments and local government employees were left out of the negotiation,” said John Donnadio, executive director of the New Jersey Association of Counties.
State workers agreed to a 3% increase in premiums. Other local public workers could see their premiums spike by up to 24%. The clock is running out on the negotiation period.
