Gov. Phil Murphy cast his ballot Saturday along with first lady Tammy Murphy and their kids on the state’s first day of early in-person voting. They used one of the roughly 140 polling places across New Jersey where residents can vote in person during the state’s nine-day early voting period. Tuesday is also the deadline if you still plan to apply for a vote-by-mail ballot.
According to the numbers, Democrats have a much bigger lead in the vote by mail in term of percentage of votes cast, but also about 50% of the early in-person voters were Democrats, versus about 30% Republican and 20% unaffiliated or third parties.
State Attorney General Matt Platkin’s office is pledging extra safeguards against voter fraud and other illegal acts, rolling out a new Voter Protection Initiative to help voters should they encounter a problem.
