Homeowners who suffered property damage during Hurricane Ida have until Monday, May 1 to apply for aid. The Homeowner Assistance and Recovery Program, known as HARP, has $68 million to disburse from federal disaster relief funds.

So far, nearly 1,200 applications have come in but, according to the state, it will take a lot of time to finalize the awardees, even after the deadline passes. The Department of Community Affairs will first have to verify the property damage, conduct site inspections and determine the cost of the repair, just a few of the steps in the lengthy process.
