The sexual harassment allegations against New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo have strengthened calls for more to be done to protect women in the political arena in New Jersey.
Over the last few years, Sen. Loretta Weinberg has worked with colleagues inside and outside the State House to force oversight of New Jersey politics and to reform the toxic culture for women. “I think campaigns across the state of New Jersey are on notice, even if this bill is not passed in time for this election, are on notice, they have to operate their campaigns in a safe, accountable and transparent way,” Weinberg said.
Longtime Democratic strategist Julie Roginsky said, “You cannot trust a process where there’s an internal investigatory power in any campaign or organization. What happened in New York should be a wake-up call to every single legislator in New Jersey to pass legislation to have that kind of independent body with real subpoena power in New Jersey.”
