Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie on Sunday visited Israel, where he toured a kibbutz destroyed in the Oct. 7 attack by Hamas militants. Israel has responded with retaliatory attacks that have killed over 11,000 Palestinians, including more than 4,000 children.

“I came here because I wanted to see this for myself,” Christie, a Republican presidential hopeful, said during the tour, where he wore a flak jacket and was accompanied by Israeli soldiers.

During the visit, Christie said the U.S. must stand “shoulder to shoulder” with its ally, Israel. He said he backed Israel’s rejection of a cease-fire in the Gaza Strip, even as international pressure for a cease-fire mounts.
