Pro-Palestinian rallies took place on Thursday outside U.S. Sen. Cory Booker’s office in Newark and U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell’s offices in Paterson, demanding at the bare minimum a ceasefire in Gaza. NJ Spotlight News caught up with Rania Mustafa, executive director of the Palestinian American Community Center in Clifton.

“I think our biggest message is that enough is enough,” Mustafa said. “There have been over 10,000 people that have been killed. Of them, over 4,000 children, and we just are trying to appeal to people’s humanity and say that enough is enough and we need to (have a) ceasefire.”

Mustafa described how the Palestinian community feels “very abandoned.”

“For so long, we have been OK with the bare minimum being that we’ve been living in a post 9/11 world, where our community has been forced to be in more of an apologetic place in the way that we interact with others,” he said. “And so now we’re in a place where our community is literally grieving as [we’re] being actively murdered. And we are not getting the attention or the advocacy that’s needed in order to end this.”
