A massive pile of dirt, construction waste and debris in the heart of Camden is contaminating the air for nearby residents and impacting their health. The state filed a lawsuit last May to get the mess cleaned up, but so far little has changed. And what’s worse, this site is just one of several around the city, in spite of millions spent to clear them out.

“We are really worried about the schoolchildren who have to come and pass that,” said Shaneka Boucher, a Camden councilwoman. “Fugitive dust can be very harmful to the health of the people who live here. And there have been people who’ve been living here for years. As we were standing here, they were complaining that nobody is doing anything. So we want to make sure people are aware we want to take action.”
