New Jersey residents are getting squeezed when it comes to paying to fill up the tank, with gas prices surging to record highs. The average price for a gallon of gas in New Jersey is now about 4.47 cents, according to AAA. In just one week, the price per gallon increased by about 25 cents. New Jersey had one of the biggest weekly price jumps compared to other states, second only to Michigan. Gas prices have been rising steadily since last month.

The American Dream mall reported nearly $60 million in losses last year, as the pandemic disrupted retail and there were delays in opening stores and attractions. That’s according to Northjersey.com, which quoted an unaudited financial report filed by Meadowlands Joint Venture, first reported by Bloomberg News. It also reported that the Triple Five Group is seeking an extension to repay $1.7 billion in construction financing. A separate filing shows the mall was 80% leased as of early April.

A report out Monday is urging the Murphy administration to do more to support veteran-owned businesses. It finds the state is failing to meet the requirements of a 2015 law that sets aside a percentage of state procurement contracts for veteran-owned businesses. The report, released by the Garden State Initiative and New Jersey State Veterans Chamber of Commerce, says only a handful of state agencies have awarded contracts to disabled veteran-owned businesses. The Murphy administration didn’t immediately comment on the report.
