Bloomfield College’s merger with Montclair State University will cost workers, including teachers, their jobs. The merger was to prevent Bloomfield from shutting down for good. Now, NJ Spotlight News has learned 13% of Bloomfield’s full-time employees will not be hired back after the merger; that includes 10 full-time faculty members.
The teacher’s union representing Bloomfield professors filed an unfair labor practice complaint against the school a few weeks ago, claiming school leaders had failed to negotiate in good faith. A Montclair State University spokesperson told NJ Advance Media the school is trying to offer positions to as many people as possible. The merger is expected to be completed by June 30.
