The New Jersey Attorney General’s Office is reviewing the conduct of former Attorney General Gurbir Grewal and top deputy Andrew Bruck after it was disclosed in the indictment that Menendez in 2019 reportedly tried to “favorably resolve” criminal matters with the state’s top law enforcement officials.

The AG is describing the investigation into Grewal and Bruck as an “internal inquiry,” and neither official has been interviewed by New Jersey prosecutors. NJ Spotlight News caught up with Bloomberg News reporters Austin Weinstein and David Voreacos, who have new reporting on the inquiry.

“Senator Menendez called Gurbir Grewal out of the blue,” Voreacos said. “Grewal was then the New Jersey Attorney General, and [Menendez] asked him about what he said was the disparate treatment of Hispanics in the trucking industry by the Office of the Insurance Fraud Prosecutor.”

Voreacos added, “So, what’s happened now is the current Attorney General is looking at the conduct in totality of the attorney general’s office in 2019 in dealing with two cases that federal prosecutors say Menendez wanted “favorably resolved.”‘
