Travelers at Newark Liberty International Airport on Wednesday were hit with numerous delays related to staffing shortages caused by the ongoing federal government shutdown.

According to FlightAware, Newark airport experienced nearly 400 delays on Tuesday and another 150 as of Wednesday afternoon.

U.S. Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy this week again blamed Democrats for the shutdown brought on by the Republican-controlled Congress. The shutdown is now the longest in U.S. history, and Duffy has warned of mass chaos if the government doesn’t reopen, adding the administration may be forced to close some airspace if there aren’t enough air traffic controllers to ensure safe travel.
