Last month, Gov. Phil Murphy unveiled his nearly $58 billion spending plan for New Jersey. State lawmakers will be able to accept some, all or none of the governor’s plan as they draft a spending bill for the 2026 fiscal year. Lawmakers and Murphy have to enact a spending bill before the start of the new fiscal year on July 1.
It’s Murphy’s last budget proposal as governor and he is looking to enact several tax and fee hikes, including some that lawmakers have previously rejected. Increased taxes and fees on alcohol, gambling, marijuana and even an increase to the state’s “mansion tax.”
