Entrepreneurs wanting to become licensed marijuana cultivators in New Jersey can begin submitting their applications on Wednesday. Applications will be processed in order of priority. Social equity businesses — those owned by individuals with prior marijuana convictions or ones located in economically disadvantaged areas — will top the list.

The state’s Cannabis Regulatory Commission will only issue 37 licenses for cannabis cultivators before February 2023, even though it plans to continue processing applications as they come in. Retailers who want to sell recreational marijuana will be able to start applying on March 15. The start date for recreational cannabis sales has still not been set.
