The Allen Road fire that began Wednesday night in Bass River State Forest was 50% contained as of Friday afternoon, according to the state Forest Fire Service.

Smoke from the fire combined with fog led authorities to briefly close a 25-mile stretch of the Garden State Parkway Friday morning. The parkway was reopened in both directions by 10 a.m. with a 50 mph speed advisory because of visibility concerns.

Two local roads near the fire remain closed. The smoke has contributed to poor air quality across the state, especially in South Jersey, and is expected to continue to be the case through Saturday at least.
