Parental rights could be a key wedge issue in New Jersey’s upcoming legislative elections, says Charles Stile, columnist for The Bergen Record and NorthJersey.com. In an interview with NJ Spotlight News, Stile said, “Republicans are exploiting the topic” and they’re coming out on top. “They seem to have a coherent narrative that parents rights are being stripped away by the big Phil Murphy liberal state.”

Rancor in New Jersey over the issue reflects a larger move by the Republican Party to mine local elections and school boards. “It’s a tangent to a power struggle over public employee unions and the school choice movement,” said Stile. “And, I think some of this is being fueled by the residual anger over the school masking and vax mandates and it’s a big combustible mix which the Republicans are fueling.”
