Just days after becoming the Republican nominee for lieutenant governor, longtime Burlington County politician Diane Allen caught some voters by surprise. After having shaped her career as a moderate who easily worked across the aisle, Allen was reported to have veered right recently when asked about her stance on so-called culture war topics like immigration, gun laws and the sex education curriculum in schools.

Allen’s selection for the ticket was initially seen as a way to bring GOP gubernatorial nominee Jack Ciatarelli closer to the largely progressive voting base across New Jersey. In an interview with NJ Spotlight News, Allen shares whether that is, in fact, the campaign plan.
