Hoboken officials confirm the broken water main that ruptured days ago is now repaired and water service has been restored, but a boil-water advisory remains in effect for residents. The issue began Monday when a PSE&G construction crew working on an unrelated project mistakenly struck the 16-inch water main on Observer Highway and Madison Street, sending jets of water into the street, disrupting traffic and flooding businesses, schools and other properties.
Schools are now back in session after closing Tuesday while repairs were being made. The city’s hospital, Hoboken University Medical Center, evacuated patients Tuesday but kept its emergency department open. City officials were still distributing bottled water Wednesday at the Public Works Garage, while 17 other locations also have drinking water available.
