The office of the state attorney general has filed lawsuits against two gun stores in New Jersey for selling ammunition to buyers without checking ID or permits.
During a news conference Wednesday, Attorney General Matt Platkin said Butch’s Gun World in Vineland and Point Blank Guns and Ammo in East Hanover sold large quantities of AR-15 rifle and handgun ammunition magazines to undercover investigators without first making the legally required checks. Platkin said the lawsuits filed Wednesday stem from four separate incidents this year. State law mandates customers buying ammunition to have a permit for a firearm.
“With today’s lawsuits we’re once again reminding them we will hold you accountable if you put our residents at risk,” Platkin said. “I simply will not tolerate lax and reckless business practices in the firearms industry or any industry that make our residents unsafe. These are the kinds of practices that can lead to the next deadly mass shooting.”
