COVID-19 cases are surging in New Jersey and the rapidly spreading omicron variant is rampant. But Gov. Phil Murphy has so far refused to tighten restrictions.

Individual towns are now taking matters into their own hands and issuing their own mandates. South Orange has an indoor mask mandate for everyone, regardless of vaccination status. In Montclair, the township council voted unanimously to reinstate a mask mandate.
