Hopes were high when the state opened its largest mass COVID-19 vaccination site in Newark. A federally-backed operation on the campus of NJIT, it serves several towns in Essex, Hudson, Passaic and Union Counties.
With an emphasis on getting doses straight to those living in the Brick City, Newark leaders launched a campaign to provide residents with the transportation, resources and background info they’d need to get there. More than a week in and the site’s been flooded with people clamoring for a vaccine. Problem is, it’s not exactly the group health officials were targeting.
