Time’s running out for bill that would give more clout to NJ Transit customer advocate

Under proposed measure, customer advocates could conduct investigations, issue reports and testify on behalf of commuters

Throughout her long career at the State House, Senate Majority leader Loretta Weinberg has championed change for NJ Transit. She has sponsored an NJ Transit Reform bill that she hopes will better serve the transit agency’s customers by creating an Independent Consumer Advocate position. In addition, the bill would force the agency to give the public a week’s notice of agenda items for board meetings and makes room for actual commuters to serve as board members. Advocates warn commuters to expect baby steps, not a great immediate change.

But time is running out for the bill in the current lame-duck legislative session.
