The flu vaccine is in high demand. That’s because health professionals say it offers the best protection against the flu, which is widespread across the state. Thousands of residents in Hudson County have rolled up their sleeves to get one.

“We have vaccinated nearly 6,000 adults … and hundreds of children,” said Anny Tavares, a registered nurse at the North Hudson Community Action Center. “That’s about twice as many people as last year.”

With so many people looking to get a flu shot, supplies have been exhausted at some clinics in Hudson County. But new supplies are scheduled to come in this week so anyone in need of a flu shot should be able to get one. To find a list of flu clinics, check the state Health Department website.

The vaccine is considered to be a good match for the strain that is prevalent this season. It takes about two weeks for flu shots to become effective.
