At least 700,000 people voted in what was billed to be a sleepy primary election in New Jersey. The exact number is still unclear as ballots continue to be counted, but the total is already higher than for the last similar primary election in 2010. That’s likely due to the growing popularity of vote-by-mail, coupled with the new early in-person voting option.
With no big surprise results, the major takeaway from the election was that the line — that coveted spot on the ballot that’s controlled by the parties and all but guarantees favorable electoral outcomes — was the difference in almost all the races.
