Advocates for domestic violence survivors are bracing for an annual holiday surge of abuse reports. Research shows that at this time of year, elevated stress, increased alcohol consumption and large family gatherings can add to the frequency and intensity of abuse.
Julye Myner, the executive director of the Bergen County-based Center for Hope and Safety, explains why the threat of domestic violence is higher at this time of year, and what warning signs concerned family and friends can look for.
