State promotes SNAP to fight food insecurity

New Jersey’s Department of Human Services reports that even though 900,000 people in the Garden State are food insecure, just 700,000 receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, benefits.

Many New Jerseyans may not even know about the program, or that they qualify for it, which is why Gov. Phil Murphy has declared Nov. 10-16 NJ SNAP Awareness Week.

Meanwhile, the Trump administration is proposing changes to the program that would disqualify some 92,000 New Jersey residents from receiving benefits because the federal government says they make too much money.
