Gov. Phil Murphy’s ending of the statewide mandate for masks in schools comes into effect on March 7. It will then be up to school districts to decide. Some districts have surveyed staff members and families on masking policies — and with very different outcomes.

“If you call one random district in the state and ask if the parents and their staff even, are [they] in favor of masks, you’ll get one answer. If you call one 100 miles away, you’ll get a completely different answer,” said Karen Binger, executive director of the New Jersey Principals and Supervisors Association.
