U.S. Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D-11th) is spearheading legislation to expand access to contraception, looking to require private health care plans to cover full-year supplies instead of the current standard of three months in most states, including New Jersey.
The push by Sherrill comes as Congress battles over a military spending bill. “It’s so important to have this longer access to birth control,” Sherrill said. “We also know that in areas across the country, millions of women are in what we call contraception deserts, meaning they don’t have full access to reproductive health care options like contraception. So, making it easier provides much better health outcomes for women.”
