State Senate Republicans sent a letter Thursday to Gov. Phil Murphy, pressing him to end vaccination and testing mandates for certain workers, including health care workers, teachers and corrections officers. Sen. Holly Schepisi (R-Bergen) discusses the reasoning behind the letter. Schepisi, self-described as pro-choice within reason, also discusses the leaked draft opinion showing the Supreme Court poised to strike down Roe v. Wade, the decision that gives a constitutional right to abortion in the U.S.

“I’m concerned — not about places like New Jersey — about the implications for women in other states, particularly those that may not have the means to travel and to get access, just for women’s health care in general. Depending on what policies get pushed forward in other states, could that potentially endanger a woman’s life?,” Schepisi said. As an attorney, she said, she also has “really grave concerns about the leaking of a first-draft Supreme Court opinion and the implications for the court moving forward. It sets a very dangerous precedent for anybody who disagrees with maybe something their employer is doing at a court and whether or not this becomes a new tactic to try to force different decisions.”
