The New Jersey Cannabis Regulatory Commission last week approved rules for cannabis consumption areas. The rules stipulate a consumption area must be attached to a dispensary, customers must be at least 21 or older, medicinal patients must be allowed to bring their own cannabis into the location, and food cannot be sold on the premises. Patrons will be able to bring food or have it delivered, and food trucks outside the location will also be allowed.
“It’s an opportunity for the industry to continue its growth,” said Christopher Riggs, chief counsel for the commission. “It’s going to provide access to individuals who weren’t able to smoke at home. And now they have a place to go to consume cannabis, both medical patients and [other] consumers. So it’s a big part of operating in this market and continuing to grow this market.”
The rules are pending approval by the New Jersey Office of Administrative Law.
