On Wednesday night, the Colts Neck Board of Education voted to move forward with a policy that would require teachers and staff members to out certain students based on their gender identity. The Colts Neck school district is expected to take a final vote on the policy at its next board meeting on June 14.
An earlier version of the policy was struck down in February; the policy is now advancing with the support of some parents and the majority of the board.
This vote comes less than a week after a judge blocked a similar policy in Hanover Township, stating that it was a violation of New Jersey’s discrimination laws and targets LGBTQ+ children.
