Republicans call for caution on granting Gov. Murphy emergency powers

Amid rising infections and surging hospitalizations, Gov. Phil Murphy is calling on the Legislature to extend a number of pandemic-related emergency powers for another three months. Most of his emergency powers ended this summer — but others were extended — including the right to impose statewide restrictions and mask mandates. Now, those powers are set to expire as well, if lawmakers don’t act before the end of the legislative session next Tuesday.
