An update on a story NJ Spotlight News first reported in April. The mother of 24-year-old Kyle Mullen, the Navy SEAL candidate who died during “hell week” training, continues her nightmare journey, with her push to reform the training process. Last week the U.S. House voted to approve the “Kyle Mullen Naval Safety Enhancements” amendment. It was led by New Jersey Congressman Chris Smith, directing the Secretary of Defense to conduct a review and recommend more oversight and medical care for Navy candidates in high-stress training.

Regina Mullen is still searching for answers — and accountability — about why her son did not receive proper medical attention. A military autopsy revealed his cause of death as pneumonia and indicated he went untreated until it was too late.
