The corruption scandal involving U.S. Sen. Bob Menendez, his wife Nadine Menendez and three of their business associations became more layered last week with reporting that Nadine Menendez struck and killed a pedestrian while driving in Bogota in 2018. The crash is mentioned in the federal indictment as the impetus for a high-profile bribe to the Menendezes of a new Mercedes Benz.
Nadine Menendez walked away from that night unscathed and without any legal consequences. The details of that night were largely unknown until last week when local and national news outlets shared police footage of the response. Since then, new investigations have been launched into the actions of local police.
Katie Sobko, a statehouse reporter for The Bergen Record and NorthJersey.com, spoke with NJ Spotlight News to discuss what exactly happened that night in 2018, what the investigation means for the Bogota Police Department and Bergen County Prosecutors Office, and what happens next.
