New Jersey is considering legislation to hold gun-makers responsible when weapons are used to the detriment of others. A bill passed in the Senate Judiciary Committee Monday would allow the state attorney general to bring legal action against gun companies in cases where those guns endanger, or are used to threaten or injure another person. Advocates say the measure would help stop the flow of illegal guns into New Jersey. And while New Jersey already has some of the strictest gun laws in the nation, that bill is just one in a package of bills Gov. Phil Murphy is calling on the Legislature to pass.

On Tuesday, Senate Majority Leader Teresa Ruiz was among those at a demonstration in Newark of microstamping, cutting-edge technology that allows bullets and casings to be traced back to the weapon from which they were discharged. State lawmakers and acting Attorney General Matthew Platkin are calling for passage of a bill that would require microstamping technology for new semi-automatic pistols sold in New Jersey.
