The latest idea being floated to save the state money is the furloughing of thousands of public workers. A bipartisan proposal unveiled by Senate President Steve Sweeney could save state and local governments hundreds of million of dollars. Many workers would not lose any income because they would be able to apply for enhanced unemployment benefits.

The Small Business Administration has released details on just how much money New Jersey businesses received under the emergency loan program known as the Paycheck Protection Program, or PPP. A total of $9.5 billion was awarded in New Jersey to more than 33,000 businesses.
Nationally, the SBA approved 1.6 million loans, with the average award totaling $206,000.

Many small businesses which missed out on the last round of loans are hoping for another opportunity when more federal funding becomes available. Late Tuesday, the Senate passed a new, nearly $500 billion bill to provide more money for small businesses and hospital relief.
