One of the state’s most progressive activists wants to win back a congressional seat lost by Democrats to Republicans. Sue Altman, who leads New Jersey’s liberal-leaning Working Families Alliance, announced Wednesday she’s running to unseat U.S. Rep. Tom Kean Jr. in the 7th Congressional District, labeling Kean a career politician and “Donald Trump apologist.”
The 7th district was redrawn last year, favoring Republicans and helping Kean to defeat Democratic Rep. Tom Malinowski by just 3% of the vote. Altman’s candidacy was largely expected after Malinowski announced a week ago he won’t attempt a return to Congress. The 7th district is being heavily targeted by national Democrats, who are eyeing the seat to help reclaim control of the House.
