More than 2,000 nonviolent inmates were released from state prisons on Nov. 4 in an effort to lessen crowding and prevent the spread of COVID-19 behind bars. It was among the largest single releases in state history and the only program of its kind in the country.
Now, many of these returning citizens are facing an uncertain future with an already difficult reentry process made more complicated by the pandemic. Senior Correspondent David Cruz checks in on former inmates tackling a second chance at life.
