Princeton University’s team has reached the Sweet 16 stage of the NCAA men’s basketball tournament. The Princeton Tigers team is only the fourth from the Ivy League to make it that far; and it’s the first time for the Tigers since 1967. The team is in Louisville, Kentucky for a Friday-night matchup with Creighton University.
Players and people involved the program may not be shocked the team has advanced this far, but many others are, including Princeton fans, alumni and students, some of whom made the trip to Louisville to see the Tigers try to keep their surprising run going.
The team’s coach, Mitch Henderson, said, “You know there are stars galore at our university — economics professors, chemistry professors — and it’s fun to see our guys be recognized as celebrities. As fun as this all is, it’s a life-changing moment for our group. Three weeks ago, we were fighting for our life to make the Ivy League tournament. So just appreciating, being present here, is really special.”
