On Thursday, the first day of Black History Month, a pop-up museum that explores historic moments in the Civil Rights Movement, was opened at Plainfield High School.

The goal is to help students understand the importance of exercising their right to vote at all levels so they can select people who best represent their perspectives and voices.

Plainfield Public Schools teamed up with Project Ready, the nonprofit civic engagement group, to present the museum.

Shennell McCloud, CEO of Project Ready, said: “We started a little over five years ago with the intention of bringing Black and brown communities together so that they can understand the importance of civic engagement and the throughline between equitable information.”

The museum will remain open for the next two months.
