More than 200 people lined up at a clinic in Newark Tuesday to receive a vaccination against monkeypox. The walk-in clinic is a partnership between the state Department of Health and the North Jersey Community Research Initiative, whose CEO Brian McGovern said the clinic opened with a limited supply of 250 vaccines from the DOH. There are 367 cases of monkeypox in New Jersey as of Wednesday. Ten vaccination sites are operational in the state, with the recent addition of one at University Hospital, Newark.
“Jersey City and Newark are the two hardest-hit areas … We talk about our proximity to New York City, which has been the epicenter of this outbreak currently,” said Quincy Bell, of the Hyacinth Foundation and who runs its vaccination clinic in Jersey City.
