The pedestrian fatality rate in New Jersey is nearly double the national average, according to recent data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

In 2017, 624 people were killed in crashes, including 183 pedestrians, which translates to about one pedestrian killed every two days in the state according to the report.

That’s why Street Smart NJ kicked off a pedestrian safety campaign in Long Beach Township. The campaign partnered with shore towns that see an major influx of both drivers and pedestrians heading to the beach. The goal is to make all roadway users aware of ways to reduce pedestrian-vehicle crashes during the busy summer season.
