Children attending Passaic Public Schools are wearing masks in the classrooms and on school buses once again. The school district, which is one of the largest in the state, reinstated a mask mandate due to rising COVID-19 cases. Employees and visitors are also required to wear face coverings. The district’s superintendent said that under school board policy, masks are required during periods of high levels of COVID-19, as documented by the state health department.
The state says Passaic County is among 10 counties in New Jersey with high community levels of COVID-19. The others are Bergen, Cumberland, Essex, Hudson, Middlesex, Monmouth, Somerset, Union and Warren. New Jersey’s remaining counties have medium transmission levels. On Wednesday, the state Department of Health reported 1,866 of new confirmed COVID-19 cases and 19 deaths.
